A Great Work (Week 3)

“A Great Work: Study of Nehemiah”
Part 3
“ Build Your Wall & Live to Tell About It”

1.SHAPE the mountain & PACE the TEMPO.

Shape the Mountain by:

A. Breaking it down into OBTAINABLE GOALS.
B.EMPOWER OTHERS to help me complete the work.
C. Trust God to Do WHAT I can't.
D. CELEBRATE the SMALL WINS.

*Learn to operate at a PACE that is SUSTAINABLE. Learn that taking breaks isn’t regression but leads to progression.

Different seasons require a different level of intensity.

Every Vision needs:
A. A Clear Outcome
B. A Process for getting there
C. Knowledge of Who will do what

(A.Visionary B.Implementor C.Trouble Shooter
D. Time Frame

2. Commit to Living after GOD’s WORD.

GOD’S WORD should become our AUTHORITY for life.

Doing things GOD’S WAY brings PEACE to my life.

Psalm 16:11 “You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore”

When we do things God’s Way , there is a BLESSING that COMES upon it.

3. We WIN when we FORGIVE.

Forgiveness isn’t A FEELING, it is a DECISION.

I am a BETTER ME when I FORGIVE.

A Great Work - How To Respond To Adversity

"A Great Work”

How to Respond to Adversity:

Recap:
1. Define Your PURPOSE2. Determine Your CIRCLE3. Defend Your WORK

Nehemiah 4:1-20

If you are going in the RIGHT DIRECTION, the enemy will attack you.

1. Stay on the Wall, CONTINUE, Your Work(Nehemiah 6:3)

If you wait until there is NO OPPOSITION, you will never fulfill your purpose.

We must learn to operate within our gifting and to realize that opposition is going to be present.
Gifting and ADVERSITY come as a package.
Note:

The opposition did not define Nehemiah or his Great Work.
** The enemy shouts but God whispers. The enemy shouts to distract us but

God is near and therefore whispers.

** Never make a permanent decision during a temporary trial.

2. Identify Vulnerable Places

Where are you VULNERABLE ?
A. Identify TRENDS.
B. Ask Someone to POINT OUT VULNERABLE areas in your life. C. Put a PLAN in place to STRENGTHEN those areas.

Note:

When Nehemiah fortified the weak places, the enemy’s plan was thwarted.

(Nehemiah 4:15)

When we get serious about growth, God fortifies us and it prevents the plans of evil.

“Resist the devil and he will flee from you”

(James 4:7)

3. The Greatest response to adversity is to PRAY ABOUT IT.

Yes, He worked, He identified, He fortified, but ultimately, He PRAYED.

A good rule to live by: “Talk to God about it BEFORE you talk to anyone else about it.

Stay Close to God everyday, but PLAN special times with God. Get a spiritual NOTEBOOK or JOURNAL.

I want to encourage you today.
When the enemy brings adversity into your life:

1. Stay committed to your work.
2. Identify vulnerability and strengthen that area.

3. PRAY

Does God Really Speak to Me? Week 3

1. Served with excellence

Genesis 39:1-2a

1Now Joseph had been taken down to Egypt. Potiphar, an Egyptian who was one of Pharaoh’s officials, the captain of the guard, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him there.

2The Lord was with Joseph

2. Faithful to God even when He was quiet

Genesis 39:9b

How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?

3. Didn’t allow his pain to blind him to other’s pain

Genesis 40:6-7

6When Joseph came to them the next morning, he saw that they were dejected. 7So he asked Pharaoh’s officials who were in custody with him in his master’s house, “Why do you look so sad today?”

4. At the end he recognized how God was working all along

Genesis 45:7-8

7 But God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance.

8 “So then, it was not you who sent me here, but God. He made me father to Pharaoh, lord of his entire household and ruler of all Egypt.

Does God Really Speak to Me? Week 2

Language of the Spirit

 Review:

God speaks 3 primary ways..

1. The Word of God

General and Specific

Logos and Rhema

2. The People of God.  God uses spiritual authorities in our lives to give us direction and counsel that is of the Lord

3. The Prompting of the Holy Spirit in our spirit

Matthew 7: 7 -11

*Fear and insecurity will rob us of hearing and receiving from the Father

Here's another good test...

Is what I'm hearing confusing and vague or right to the point? God doesn't like to put us through confusion. "For God is not a God of confusion but of peace" (1 Corinthians 14:33). He won't send mixed messages.Does this answer go against God's Word? If so, it's not God. God will NOT contradict Himself.Would acting out the answer lead you to sin? Those who live by the Spirit will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature (Galatians 5:16).

Principles

Galatians 5: 22-23

God’s Voice Reveals His Heart

He speaks in pictures: Habakuk 2:1

His Voice isn’t overpowering

1 Kings 19: 9-16

Does God Really Speak to Me?

Does God Really Speak to Me?

The Question:  Does God Really Speak to Me?

Revelation 3:20

“he who has ears to hear”

Jesus often said this, not everyone has the ear to hear

Listening and hearing are two separate issues

3 Primary ways God Speaks to Us:

1. God’s Word

2.God often speaks through Authorities in my life, or His voice sounds like what they would say.

3.His Spirit bearing witness/ agreeing within me or giving me a warning in my heart.

To Be A Legacy Builder

"Legacy Builders”

Quick Recap last week Legacy Killers:

1. I Legacy Killers are Image Seeker
 2. When we use our influence to build up others / God always makes sure that we too find  honor,   We reap what we sow…
3. Legacy Killers never challenge their own insecurities but often project them onto others who God is using.
4.Legacy killers mistake their worth in their position instead of commitment to “The Mission”

 To be a Legacy Builder...

#1 Call out greatness in somebody

#2 Choose To Invest in the Next

David's Offering (1 Chron 29:4)

TalentsPounds (75 lb / talent)Troy Ounces (12 troy oz / lb)Dollar value (gold: $310 / oz or silver: $4.84 / oz)Gold3000224,0002,700,000$837 millionSilver7000525,0006,300,000$30.5 millionTotal: $867.5 million

Legacy is God’s design

Take what we have and what we learned and pass it on.

#3 Choose Now what will be said Then

Legacy Killer or Legacy Builder

Legacy Builder or Legacy Killer: What Will You Be?

*Legacy is simply, building up the next

Saul was a legacy killer, David was a Legacy Builder

1 Samuel 15:24-31

Image seekers are often Legacy Killers

Legacy Killers are more concerned with their personal status

Legacy Builders are more concerned with the next generations status.

When we use our influence to build up others / God always make sure that we too find  honor

  We reap what we sow

Legacy Killers never challenge their insecurities

1 Samuel 18:

-12

Legacy Killers Fail To Realize:

The Davids are just as anointed as the Sauls

They could impact future generations instead of just their own

The enemy Thrives on hearts that are given to Killing the Next Generation

Their real value, It isn’t about position, but in furthering the Mission

Our greatest ability is Flexibility

 The Exchange Zone is Critical

Most Races are won or lost by the handoff

The Story, Open or Closed

The Story:

“Open or Closed"

 John

12 Six days before the Passover, Jesus therefore came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. So they gave a dinner for him there. Martha served, and Lazarus was one of those reclining with him at table.

Mary therefore took a pound[a] of expensive ointment made from pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples (he who was about to betray him), said,

“Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii[b] and given to the poor?” He said this, not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief, and having charge of the moneybag he used to help himself to what was put into it.

Jesus said, “Leave her alone, so that she may keep it[c] for the day of my burial. For the poor you always have with you, but you do not always have me.”

Matthew :26 When Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said to his disciples, “You know that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of Man will be delivered up to be crucified.”

Now when Jesus was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper,[aa woman came up to him with an alabaster flask of very expensive ointment, and she poured it on his head as he reclined at table.

And when the disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, “Why this waste? For this could have been sold for a large sum and given to the poor.”

10 But Jesus, aware of this, said to them, “Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a beautiful thing to me. 11 For you always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me.

12 In pouring this ointment on my body, she has done it to prepare me for burial. 13 Truly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her.”

14 Then one of the twelve, whose name was Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests 15 and said, “What will you give me if I deliver him over to you?” And they paid him thirty pieces of silver. 16 And from that moment he sought an opportunity to betray him.

3 Major Influencers in story:

1. Lazarus

2. Mary (Lazarus Sister)

3. Judas

Mary Influences the Unknown Women with extravagant worship…

1. Worship always Cost. She knew the cost….

2. The Heart of a Worshiper  Always Moves the Heart of God….

3. Worship is contagious..

Judas Influenced the Disciples (Negatively)

1. Criticism stems from a hard heart.

2. Criticism always seeks to betray at some point.

3. Criticism is a transferable disease of the heart, so be careful...

Overflow, Attitudes that Attract and Repel Gods Blessings

"Attitudes that Attract / Attitudes that Repel God’s Blessing”

1 John 2:12-17

Don’t Love the World, it squeezes out the Love of God in our lives.

The World is made up of THREE ATTITUDES:
1. Lust of the Flesh
2. Lust of the Eyes
3. Pride

Lust of the Flesh : Sexual Sins

Lust of the Eyes: Materialism / Covetousness

Pride of Life: Recognition/ Control/ Power/ Honor

3 Attitudes that Attract the Blessings of God.

Also a Remedy for the three attitudes that repel God’s blessing.

Integrity

3 B’s

Be Open to the Holy Spirit and God’s Word

Be Accountable to someone you trust

Be Around people who are what you want to be

Proverbs 3:5-10

How to Become People Of Uncommon Faith

1 Samuel 17

2 Corinthians 4:18

Becoming a Person of Uncommon Faith

Uncommon Faith comes from 3 Primary Characteristics:

1. Character

*Our Character must be able to support our calling.

1 Samuel 16

*Built in less than obvious times/ times of the ordinary.

*Involves motives,  our motives must be pure.

Periodically re-submitt your motives to the Lord.

Little fox ruin the vine. Song of Solomon 2:15

2. Clarity

* Who I am

*Who I am Not

*Let God define who you are.

1 Samuel 16:13 Message Translations

13 Samuel took his flask of oil and anointed him, with his brothers standing around watching. The Spirit of God entered David like a rush of wind, God vitally empowering him for the rest of his life.  Samuel left and went home to Ramah.

God will define Who you are and You will have to flesh it out!

3. Confidence:

Confidence is the opposite of Intimidation.

Intimidation is a spirit.  Breaks your faith and discourages.

To overcome the spiritual stonghold of intimidation you can’t not let what you see overwhelm you.

To overcome intimidation you can’t let what you hear discourage you.

2 Corinthians 4:18

Hebrews 11:1-3

Help I'm In A Transition (Week 3)

Ruth 1:3

1. Don’t become bitter in your season of transition.

Ruth 1:11

Ruth 1:20

2. Find a Ruth in your season of transition.

Ruth 1:16

3. Get into agreement with God.

Ruth 3:3-4
““Take a bath. Put on some perfume. Get all dressed up and go to the threshing floor. But don’t let him know you’re there until the party is well under way and he’s had plenty of food and drink. When you see him slipping off to sleep, watch where he lies down and then go there. Lie at his feet to let him know that you are available to him for marriage. Then wait and see what he says. He’ll tell you what to do.””
‭‭
Ps 37:23
“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.”

Proverbs 3:6
“In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

Ruth 2:5
“Boaz asked his young servant who was foreman over the farm hands, “Who is this young woman? Where did she come from?””

Ruth 2:6-2:10
“The foreman said, “Why, that’s the Moabite girl, the one who came with Naomi from the country of Moab. She asked permission. ‘Let me glean,’ she said, ‘and gather among the sheaves following after your harvesters.’ She’s been at it steady ever since, from early morning until now, without so much as a break.”

Ruth 2:11-2:13
“Boaz answered her, “I’ve heard all about you—heard about the way you treated your mother-in-law after the death of her husband, and how you left your father and mother and the land of your birth and have come to live among a bunch of total strangers. GOD reward you well for what you’ve done—and with a generous bonus besides from GOD, to whom you’ve come seeking protection under his wings.”

This is KEY:

Ruth 2:20
“Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, “Why, GOD bless that man! GOD hasn’t quite walked out on us after all! He still loves us, in bad times as well as good!” Naomi went on, “That man, Ruth, is one of our circle of covenant redeemers, a close relative of ours!””

Ruth 3:1
“One day her mother-in-law Naomi said to Ruth, “My dear daughter, isn’t it about time I arranged a good home for you so you can have a happy life? And isn’t Boaz our close relative, the one with whose young women you’ve been working? Maybe it’s time to make our move. Tonight is the night of Boaz’s barley harvest at the threshing floor.”
